It is because the streaming stick breathes a new lease of life in any old non-Smart TV, and in many cases, the Fire TV and TV Stick offer a better experience than many Smart TVs. While Fire TV works flawlessly, it is possible that one fine day it will start acting a bit wonky, thereby forcing you to reset it.
There can be many other reasons why you might want to reset your Fire TV or Fire TV Stick. You might be giving it away to a friend, or your unit has just started acting a bit weirdly or crashing randomly. Sadly, while using the Fire TV is easy, the process of resetting it is not that simple. Before you get around to resetting your Fire TV, though, there are a few things you need to know.
What to Know Before Resetting Your Fire TV or Fire TV Stick
Resetting your Fire TV or Fire TV Stick will completely erase the device and unlink your Amazon account. You will have to set it up the device again after the reset, download all apps, and log into them again. In fact, the very first thing you will have to do after resetting your Fire TV is to connect it to your Wi-Fi network again.
A soft reset is different, as it means merely means restarting your Fire TV or TV Stick.
There are multiple ways to reset your Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, depending on whether it is starting or not.
How to Reset Fire TV and Fire TV Stick
Reset from within Fire TV
Step 1: Switch on your TV and Fire TV or Fire TV Stick.
Step 2: Using the Fire TV remote, go to Settings -> My Fire TV. Select the Reset to Factory Defaults option. You might be prompted to enter the security PIN of your Fire TV or TV Stick here.
Confirm your choice by selecting the Reset option from the window that pops up.
Reset Fire TV using Remote
In case your Fire TV or Fire TV Stick is not responding, you can use the remote to reset the device.
For this, simultaneously press and hold the right button on the D-pad and the back button for at least 15 seconds.
In case the remote is not working, you can use the Fire TV Remote app on your Android or iOS device to control your Fire TV and reset it.
How to Soft Reset or Restart Your Fire TV or Fire TV Stick
You don’t always need to reset your Fire TV if it is acting wonky. In some cases, you can simply restart it to see if that solves the issue or not. You can always directly switch off the power to your Fire TV. Or, you can press and hold the play and select buttons simultaneously for a few seconds.
